A furnace ignitor should last about three to five years before it breaks and needs to be replaced. It can wear out sooner if you don’t replace your air filter regularly, since a dirty one can cause your furnace to short cycle.
Your furnace will show you there’s something wrong with a red flash from its indicator light, which it uses to communicate error codes. It has this red light to flash code, much like Morse code.
