What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Air Engineers Service Experts in Jacksonville always talks about how our technicians are NATE-certified, and while it sounds encouraging, what does it truly mean?

NATE stands for North American Technician Excellence and, as stated on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization is owned, operated, developed, and supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all people in the industry are required to be certified through NATE. The certification is discretionary and technicians can service heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment without being NATE-certified.

It’s important to Air Engineers Service Experts that our team is NATE-certified to be sure we are sending the most qualified and skilled technicians into your home. To make sure experts meet these benchmarks, the NATE-certification assessments validate real-world working knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems for technicians. The tests are knowledge-based tests that assess the technician’s knowledge of these standards.

Since Air Engineers Service Experts focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification instead of refrigeration, there are only specific areas pertinent to our technicians. NATE assessment candidates may earn installation and/or service certification in one or more of the skill areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating
  • Oil Heating
  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
  • Hydronics Oil (service only)
  • Light Commercial Refrigeration (service only)

  • Ground Source Heat Pump Loop Installer
  • Senior HVAC Efficiency Analyst
